Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit Review (2026): Pricing and Limits

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: $99/mo per domain for 25 prompts, engines covered, limits, what users say, and when a standalone tool is the better buy.

Jess O'Malley, author at Sightivo

Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit is the add-on that turns a Semrush subscription into an AI search tracker: which prompts mention your brand in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI results, how you compare to competitors, and which of your pages get cited. It costs $99 a month per domain on its own, or comes bundled into the Semrush One plans with 50 to 200 tracked prompts.

This review covers what you get for that money, the limits that matter (prompts, domains, engines, exports), what users say, and the situations where a standalone AI visibility tool is the better buy. Prices were checked in August 2026 on Semrush's pricing page. We have not run the toolkit on our own account; the assessment is built from Semrush's published plans and documentation, Semrush's own research, and third-party reviews. Disclosure: Sightivo is one of the alternatives discussed below.

TL;DR

  • Price: $99/mo per domain as a standalone add-on (25 tracked prompts, no trial), or included in Semrush One — Starter $199/mo (50 prompts), Pro+ $299/mo (100), Advanced $549/mo (200). Annual billing saves about 17%.
  • Engines: ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, with Perplexity listed on some Semrush pages. Claude, Copilot and DeepSeek are reserved for the custom-priced Enterprise AIO product.
  • Best for: teams already paying for Semrush who want AI visibility alongside their keyword and backlink data in one login.
  • Weakest for: startups that don't need the rest of Semrush, anyone tracking more than one domain, and teams that want the tool to tell them what to do about a gap rather than report it.
  • Verdict: a good measurement add-on if you're a Semrush customer; an expensive way to get 25 prompts if you're not.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Sits next to Semrush's keyword, backlink and traffic data, so AI mentions can be read against organic rankings for the same topics.
  • Daily updates on AI citations and mentions; sentiment and share-of-voice reports, not just a mention count.
  • Prompt Research (up to 1,000 daily queries) gives you a starting prompt set with topic difficulty and intent, which most cheaper trackers make you build by hand.
  • The Semrush One bundles undercut buying the classic SEO tier plus the toolkit separately.

Cons

  • $99 per domain, per sub-user, on top of whatever Semrush plan you already pay for. Two domains means two licences.
  • 25 tracked prompts on the standalone add-on is thin; a category with five buyer intents and three phrasings each is already 15.
  • Competitor comparisons are limited to the brands Semrush auto-suggests, and Brand Performance covers one domain.
  • Exports are capped at 10 CSVs a day; the standalone toolkit has no trial (only Semrush One has a 7-day trial).
  • It reports gaps but does not act on them — no source list to get mentioned on, no author contacts, no drafts.

Who it's for

The toolkit makes most sense for three groups:

  1. Existing Semrush customers who want an AI visibility number in the same dashboard as rankings and backlinks, and who mostly need to report that number upward.
  2. Agencies on Semrush One Pro+ or Advanced, where 100–200 prompts and the prompt-research volume cover several small clients without buying a second tool.
  3. Content teams using Semrush for topic research who want to see which of their existing pages AI engines already cite, and which topics they're absent from.

It is a poor fit for a seed-stage startup with one product and no Semrush habit: you'd be paying for a suite to unlock a 25-prompt tracker.

What you actually get: the reports

Semrush organises the toolkit into five areas. This is what each does, from the product documentation and Behind Rankings' hands-on review (August 2026):

ReportWhat it showsLimit that matters
Visibility OverviewAn AI Visibility Score and brand mentions across the covered enginesScore is per domain
Topics & SourcesWhich of your pages are cited, how often, and for which topicsTied to the tracked prompt set
Brand PerformanceSentiment, share of voice, competitor comparisonsOne domain; competitors auto-suggested
AI Strategic OpportunitiesAI-generated recommendations for topics you're missingOn-page suggestions, not off-page
Prompt ResearchPrompt discovery with topic difficulty and intent1,000 daily queries; AI Analysis 300/day

Prompt tracking updates daily. Exports: 10 CSVs per day.

The strongest part is Prompt Research. Most trackers in this category, including cheap ones like Otterly ($29/mo, 15 prompts), hand you an empty prompt list. Semrush's is seeded from its search database, so you get a defensible starting set in minutes. The weakest part is that the "opportunities" are on-page: rewrite this, add that. The off-page half — the sources engines actually cite, which are not your site — is left to you.

Pricing, in full

Prices checked August 2026 on semrush.com/pricing:

OptionMonthlyTracked promptsNotes
AI Visibility Toolkit (standalone add-on)$99 per domain25Each extra domain or sub-user is another $99; no trial
Semrush One Starter$199 (≈$165 annual)50Includes core SEO (500 keywords, 5 sites); 7-day trial
Semrush One Pro+$299 (≈$248 annual)100
Semrush One Advanced$549 (≈$456 annual)200
Enterprise AIOCustomCustomAdds Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek

Semrush retired the old Pro/Guru/Business names during 2026; if you're on a legacy plan, the toolkit is the $99 add-on. The realistic entry cost for a non-customer who wants 50 prompts is therefore $199/mo, not $99.

What users say

The pattern across G2 reviews and independent write-ups is consistent:

  • Praise: one login for SEO and AI search; sentiment and share-of-voice reports; Semrush's data scale behind prompt research.
  • Complaints: the per-domain price ("expensive for smaller websites"), the 25-prompt cap on the add-on, competitor lists you can't fully control, and the fact that the add-on is another line on an already large Semrush bill.

Semrush's own research is worth reading regardless of whether you buy: its 2026 AI search traffic study found the average AI search visitor converts at 4.4× the rate of an organic visitor, projected AI search visitors overtaking traditional search visitors for SEO/marketing topics by early 2028, and found that roughly 90% of ChatGPT citations come from pages ranking at position 21 or lower in Google — i.e. the pages AI cites are frequently not the ones that rank.

Your first week with the toolkit

If you do buy it, the first week decides whether it earns its line on the invoice. A workable sequence:

  1. Build the prompt set from Prompt Research, then prune it. Pull the suggested prompts for your category, keep the ones a buyer would actually type ("best X for Y", "X alternatives", "is X worth it"), and stop at your allowance — 25 on the add-on, 50 on Starter. Three phrasings per intent beats twenty intents with one phrasing each.
  2. Set competitors deliberately. The auto-suggested list is where Semrush picks the brands; override it with the three you actually lose deals to, or the share-of-voice report measures the wrong race.
  3. Record the baseline on day one. AI Visibility Score, mention rate per engine, and the cited-sources list. Answers vary between runs, so treat week one as the baseline and week four as the first real comparison.
  4. Read Topics & Sources before Strategic Opportunities. The sources report tells you which third-party pages the engines already trust for your prompts; that list is the outreach target. The opportunities report will send you back to your own pages, which is the smaller lever.
  5. Export on a schedule. Ten CSVs a day is enough for a weekly snapshot; automate it or the history lives only inside Semrush.

Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit vs Sightivo

Disclosure: we make Sightivo. The comparison is fair only if it's specific, so here it is on the dimensions that actually differ.

Where Semrush wins: breadth of engines, Prompt Research volume, and the rest of the suite. Where Sightivo wins: the price for a startup that only needs AI visibility, unlimited seats, Claude coverage, and the action side — turning a missing mention into a named page, source and outreach draft. We don't claim parity with Semrush's keyword or backlink data; if you need that, you need Semrush.

Alternatives to the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

  • Ahrefs Brand Radar — the direct equivalent for Ahrefs customers: $199/mo per AI platform or $699/mo for all, on top of an Ahrefs plan; six engines and a 472M-prompt pool. More expensive, more engines.
  • Otterly.AI — $29/mo for 15 prompts; the cheapest honest tracker, with Claude/Gemini as paid add-ons.
  • Peec AI — from $80/mo (annual) for 50 prompts and three engines of your choice; strong agency reporting at $420/mo.
  • Profound — $99/mo (ChatGPT only) to $399/mo (three engines); the enterprise reference point.
  • Sightivo — $99/mo, three engines, unlimited seats, measurement plus the outreach workflow; see the full list of AI visibility tools for the rest.

When to choose Semrush

Choose the toolkit if any of these are true:

  • You already pay for Semrush and would otherwise be exporting rankings into a second tool.
  • You track one domain and can live with 25–200 prompts.
  • Your job is to report an AI visibility score to someone else, with sentiment and share of voice attached.
  • You want prompt discovery seeded from a large search database rather than writing prompts yourself.

Choose something else if you are not a Semrush customer, need Claude, track several domains, or want the tool to hand you the next off-page action rather than a chart.

Why any of this matters

Two of Semrush's and Ahrefs' own findings frame the decision. Ahrefs measured a 58% lower click-through rate for the top-ranking page when an AI Overview appears, across 300,000 keywords with December 2025 data (Ahrefs). And in Ahrefs' study of 75,000 brands, Reddit was the most-cited domain in ChatGPT answers (847,338 citations, ahead of Wikipedia's 431,710), "best of" list posts made up 43.83% of citations, and cited pages were on average 393 days newer than the pages ranking in Google for the same queries. Measuring your AI visibility is the first step; the second is earning mentions on the sources those engines cite, which no measurement toolkit does for you.

Common Questions

How much does the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit cost?

$99 per month per domain as a standalone add-on, with 25 tracked prompts and no trial (prices checked August 2026). It is also included in Semrush One: Starter $199/mo with 50 prompts, Pro+ $299/mo with 100, Advanced $549/mo with 200. Annual billing is about 17% cheaper.

Is the AI Visibility Toolkit included in my Semrush plan?

If you're on a Semrush One plan (Starter, Pro+, Advanced), yes, with a prompt allowance by tier. On legacy plans it is a $99/mo per-domain add-on. Claude, Copilot and DeepSeek coverage is only in the custom-priced Enterprise AIO.

Which AI engines does the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit track?

ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, with Perplexity listed on some Semrush product pages. Not Claude, Copilot, Grok or DeepSeek outside the enterprise product.

Is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit worth it for a startup?

Only if you'd buy Semrush anyway. For a startup that needs AI visibility alone, $99–199/mo buys a dedicated tool with more prompts, unlimited seats, and in Sightivo's case the outreach workflow; the toolkit's value is its integration with the rest of Semrush, which you'd be paying for and not using.

What are the alternatives to the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?

Ahrefs Brand Radar (for Ahrefs customers), Otterly.AI ($29/mo), Peec AI (from $80/mo), Profound (from $99/mo), and Sightivo ($99/mo). Our best AI visibility tools comparison covers ten of them with verified prices.

Key Takeaways

  • The toolkit is $99/mo per domain for 25 prompts, or bundled into Semrush One from $199/mo with 50 prompts; realistic entry for a non-customer is $199.
  • Coverage is ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI results; Claude is enterprise-only.
  • Strengths: prompt research at scale, daily updates, sentiment and share of voice, one login with your SEO data.
  • Weaknesses: per-domain and per-user pricing, thin prompt caps on the add-on, on-page-only recommendations.
  • Buy it if you're a Semrush customer; otherwise a standalone tool gives you more prompts for the same money.
