The 13 Best GEO & AEO Agencies in 2026 (And When to Skip One)

13 GEO and AEO agencies compared on focus, starting price and published work — plus the honest case for doing GEO yourself at a startup budget.

Jess O'Malley, author at Sightivo

Generative engine optimization — getting your brand mentioned and cited inside ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI answers — has produced a new line item on agency rate cards faster than almost any discipline before it. Two years ago no agency sold it. In August 2026 most SEO agencies list it, a dozen have built a practice around it, and a few have published real work.

This list separates the three. It covers thirteen agencies with a genuine GEO or AEO practice, what each is actually good at, who they're built for, and what they publish that lets you check. It ends with the section most agency lists leave out: when you don't need one, and what to do instead — because at a startup budget, the answer is usually a tool and a loop, not a retainer.

A note on labels: GEO (generative engine optimization) and AEO (answer engine optimization) are overlapping names for the same practice, with AEO also covering featured snippets and voice answers. Agencies use whichever their marketing team bet on; we've listed both.

What a GEO Agency Actually Does

Strip the vocabulary and every GEO engagement is some mix of five jobs:

  1. Prompt research. Working out which questions buyers ask AI assistants in your category, and which ones you're absent from. The good agencies run these prompts across engines repeatedly, because the same prompt returns different answers on different days.
  2. Source mapping. Identifying which pages the engines cite for those prompts — the listicles, comparison posts, Reddit threads, review sites and publications — and which of them you're on.
  3. On-site work. Restructuring pages so they're quotable: definitions up top, question-shaped headings, tables, FAQs, consistent entity facts, crawler access for OAI-SearchBot and friends.
  4. Off-site work. Getting you mentioned on the cited sources. This is digital PR with a different target list, and it's where most of the value is. Ahrefs' study of 75,000 brands found branded web mentions correlate with AI visibility at 0.664 against 0.218 for backlinks; Muck Rack's analysis of 25 million links found 84% of AI citations come from earned media.
  5. Measurement. Mention rate, citation rate and share of voice per prompt set, per engine, over time — plus AI referral traffic, which Seer Interactive's case study found converting at 15.9% against 1.76% for organic.

An agency that only does job 3 is selling on-page SEO with a new name. Ask which of the five you're buying.

How to Evaluate a GEO Agency

Questions worth asking

  • Which engines do you track, how many prompts, and how often do you re-run them? (Weekly across at least ChatGPT and Google's AI surfaces is the floor.)
  • Show me a before/after on mention rate for a named client, with the prompt set. Traffic charts don't count.
  • What share of the engagement is off-site — getting us onto sources the engines already cite — versus editing our own pages?
  • Who writes the outreach, and can we see the target list before it goes out?
  • What do you report monthly, and does it include the sources you earned, not just the score?

Red flags

  • "Guaranteed mentions" or "guaranteed AI rankings". Nobody controls what a model says. Anyone guaranteeing it is either buying placements on sites the engines don't trust, or planning to point at noise.
  • A rate card that's the SEO rate card with "GEO" added. GEO work that's only schema and headings is SEO work.
  • No published research or case studies. The practice is two years old; an agency that has been doing it has something to show.
  • Nine engines on the pitch, one on the invoice. Ask which engines the reporting covers on your plan.
  • Reciprocal or network link schemes described as "citation building". That's the pattern Google's link-spam policy names, and it does nothing for models that learn from real mentions.

How they charge. Three models show up on this list. Retainers (most of the enterprise and mid-market shops) run $5,000–15,000+ a month and usually want six or twelve months. Project fees — an audit, a prompt-research sprint, a set of pillar pages — run a few thousand dollars and are the cheapest way to test an agency before committing. Performance-linked pricing is rare in GEO for the reason above: nobody can promise a model's output. If an agency offers it, read the definition of "result" closely; it is usually traffic, which AI answers do not reliably produce even when they name you. Whatever the model, ask for the first month's deliverables in writing: prompt set, engine list, baseline mention rates and the target-source list.

The 13 Best GEO and AEO Agencies

1. Omniscient Digital — best for B2B SaaS that wants GEO tied to pipeline

Omniscient runs GEO, SEO, content, digital PR and CRO as one growth programme for B2B software companies, with research done at the buyer level (customer interviews, sales-call analysis) before keyword or prompt research starts. Clients cited on their site include Jasper, Asana, Loom and Hotjar. Their AI-info page is itself a small lesson in entity clarity — a page written so assistants describe the agency correctly.

Reported starting point: ongoing programmes from roughly $8,000–10,000/month, per third-party reviews. Fit: mid-market SaaS with a content budget. Skip if: you're pre-revenue.

2. Siege Media — best for data-driven content that gets cited

Siege builds original data studies, engineering-led content and digital PR designed to be quoted — by journalists first, and increasingly by LLMs. They publish their own GEO frameworks, including a piece on product page mapping as a GEO standard and how to rank in LLMs using digital PR.

Reported starting point: content retainers around $8,000/month, digital PR $12,000–15,000/month, typically 12-month commitments. Fit: fintech, e-commerce, SaaS and health brands at mid-market or above. Skip if: you need results in a quarter.

3. Go Fish Digital — best for enterprise GEO with published mechanics

Go Fish was early to define GEO for enterprise brands and writes about the mechanics in unusual detail: buyer-prompt identification, query fan-out analysis, mapping prompts to pages, fact-density, structured data. Their GEO case study on tripling leads is one of the few with numbers attached, and their GEO services page names the proprietary tools involved.

Fit: enterprise and e-commerce. Skip if: you don't have technical resources to implement structured-data work.

4. Seer Interactive — best for research-backed enterprise engagements

Philadelphia-based, founded in 2002, B-Corp, and the agency most likely to have published the study you're about to cite. Seer has released AI-search research since early 2023 — their AI Overviews click-through work has been picked up by Forbes, Fast Company and Search Engine Land — and runs a productised GEO service inside a full-service shop.

Fit: enterprise B2B and B2C that want GEO alongside paid, analytics and creative. Skip if: you're small enough that the research is more useful than the retainer — it's free to read.

5. Brainlabs — best for global enterprise scale

Brainlabs' AI search optimisation practice is close to 100 specialists working across Google, YouTube, Reddit and TikTok as well as the AI engines, with a stated focus on driving mentions and citations across LLM surfaces. Clients include Microsoft, LEGO and Adidas.

Fit: multinational brands with multiple markets and languages. Skip if: you have one product and one market.

6. NoGood — best for growth-stage SaaS that wants AEO end to end

NoGood's AEO service covers LLM visibility audits, content for AI readability, technical AEO, digital PR and citation strategy, across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Copilot. They're explicit about who they take on: post-Series A startups and established companies in SaaS, healthcare, fintech and e-commerce.

Fit: funded companies that want one agency for growth and AI visibility. Skip if: you're pre-Series A — they say so themselves.

7. Growth Plays — best for developer tools and enterprise SaaS

Founder-led since 2017 by John-Henry Scherck, Growth Plays builds content designed to rank in search and appear in AI answers at the same time, and tracks it through to closed revenue via HubSpot or similar. Clients include Lattice, Calendly, LangChain and LaunchDarkly.

Fit: technical products with a sales-led motion. Skip if: you need off-site PR more than content.

8. Position Digital — best for B2B and SaaS startups

A smaller UK-based shop whose GEO service starts with a brand audit and prompt research, then combines content optimisation, digital PR and brand mentions. They publish their own honest tool reviews and cite a 221% AI-citation increase for a data-collaboration SaaS client.

Fit: B2B startups that want a hands-on partner without enterprise minimums. Skip if: you need a US-timezone team.

9. Singularity Digital — best for founder-led B2B SaaS

Patrick Herbert's small team focuses on what they call "earned AEO" — citation work on Reddit, G2 and Quora — plus bottom-of-funnel pages, with a stated 60–90-day quick-wins horizon. Reported entry point around $5,000/month, aimed at SaaS in the $1–5M ARR range. They publish client results openly, which is rarer than it should be.

Fit: founder-led SaaS past first revenue. Skip if: you're an enterprise that needs process over speed.

10. Above Apex — best for the off-site half only

Above Apex does one thing: off-page for B2B SaaS — editorial links, listicle placements, brand mentions and expert quotes — and since 2026 tracks AI citation coverage across ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews as an outcome. If your on-site is fine and your problem is that nobody mentions you, this is the shape of agency to look for.

Fit: SaaS with a content team but no PR function. Skip if: your pages aren't quotable yet — fix that first.

11. iBeam Consulting — best for small companies that want a consultant, not an agency

David Kamm has run iBeam solo for over fifteen years and now leads with AI search visibility; his AI Search Visibility Matrix is a useful way to frame traditional versus AI-side performance, and his free-tools roundups rank for the queries agencies pay to appear on.

Fit: SMBs and B2B firms that want senior attention at consultant rates. Skip if: you need a team's throughput.

12. Embryo — best UK mid-market option

A ~70-person Manchester agency with a dedicated GEO/AEO service alongside SEO, paid and creative. Their guide to getting mentioned by ChatGPT ranks on page one for the query, which is a reasonable proxy for knowing how.

Fit: UK companies that want GEO inside a full-service relationship. Skip if: you're US-only.

13. 20North — best for US small and mid-sized businesses

Atlanta-based, working with mid-market e-commerce, service and SaaS businesses. 20North's AI visibility services cover tracking, GEO, authority work and reporting, with a local AI SEO offer for businesses that live or die on "near me" answers.

Fit: SMBs in the Southeast US, local and multi-location businesses. Skip if: you're a venture-backed SaaS.

Also worth knowing: Rankability and HubSpot AEO are platforms (some with agency programmes), not agencies; Conduit Digital is a white-label partner for other agencies rather than a direct hire. Agencies that would like to be considered for this list can email [email protected] with a published GEO case study.

When You Don't Need a GEO Agency

The honest threshold is budget. Every agency above starts, reported or implied, at $5,000 a month, and the ones with published results start higher. Below that, a retainer buys you a junior's attention and a monthly deck.

At a startup budget, the five jobs an agency does are all doable with a tool and a weekly hour:

  • Prompt research — write the five questions your buyers ask an assistant ("best [category] for startups", "alternatives to [incumbent]", "[category] under $X"). Run them in ChatGPT and Claude three times each.
  • Source mapping — note which pages get cited. That's your target list. Our free AI visibility checker does the ChatGPT half automatically.
  • On-site — one pillar page with a definition, a comparison table and FAQs; question-shaped headings elsewhere; make sure robots.txt allows OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot and PerplexityBot. The full checklist is in our generative engine optimization guide.
  • Off-site — pitch the authors of the cited pages to add you. It's the work Sightivo automates: it finds the pages, the authors and their contacts, and drafts the outreach — at $99/month rather than $5,000.
  • Measurement — re-run the prompts monthly and log named brands, positions and sources.

We wrote the tool version of this up in the best AI visibility tools for startups. Hire an agency when you have the budget and the internal bandwidth to brief and review one; until then, the loop above is the same work at a hundredth of the cost. One more number for perspective: OpenAI reports around 800 million weekly ChatGPT users, which is why the work is worth doing at all — but a startup's share of those answers is earned one mention at a time, and that's a task-sized problem, not a retainer-sized one.

Common Questions

What is a GEO agency?

A GEO (generative engine optimization) agency helps a brand get mentioned and cited in AI-generated answers — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. The work combines prompt research, mapping which sources the engines cite, making the brand's own pages quotable, earning mentions on the cited sources, and measuring mention and citation rates over time.

What is an AEO agency?

The same thing under a different label. AEO (answer engine optimization) agencies optimise for the same AI answers, and the term also covers featured snippets and voice answers. In practice the services overlap almost entirely; NoGood, Singularity and Rankability's agency partners use "AEO", most others use "GEO".

How much do GEO services cost?

Reported starting points for the agencies on this list run from about $5,000/month (Singularity Digital) to $8,000–15,000/month (Omniscient, Siege Media), with enterprise agencies quoting custom. Tools that cover the same loop for a single brand run $99–400/month.

Do I need an agency for generative engine optimization?

Not at startup budgets. The five jobs an agency does — prompt research, source mapping, on-site structure, off-site mentions and measurement — can be run by one person with a tool and an hour a week. An agency makes sense once you have a budget above $5,000/month and someone internal to brief and review it.

What should a GEO agency report on?

Per prompt set and per engine: mention rate (how often you're named), citation rate (how often your pages are linked), position when named, competitor share of voice, the specific sources earned that month, and AI referral traffic and conversions from analytics. A report that only shows a single "AI visibility score" is hiding the work.

Can an agency guarantee that ChatGPT recommends my brand?

No. Nobody controls model output. An agency can raise the probability by getting you onto the sources the engines cite and making your pages quotable; anyone offering a guarantee is a red flag.

Which is better for a startup — a GEO agency or a GEO tool?

A tool, until you have both the budget and the bandwidth to manage an agency. Tools give you the prompt tracking and the target list for under $100/month; the outreach is the part that takes time, and Sightivo drafts it for you.

Key Takeaways

  • Thirteen agencies have a real GEO/AEO practice; most others have added the word to an SEO rate card.
  • The value is in the off-site half — getting onto sources the engines already cite — because mentions correlate with AI visibility three times more strongly than backlinks.
  • Reported starting points run $5,000–15,000/month; below that, the same five jobs are a tool and a weekly hour.
  • Judge an agency on a named before/after in mention rate, not on traffic charts or engine counts.
  • "Guaranteed mentions" is the one phrase that should end the conversation.
