AI Visibility Tracking

Know when AI assistants recommend you — and when they don’t

People ask ChatGPT and Claude for recommendations before they ever open Google. Sightivo tracks whether your brand comes up in those answers, which of your pages gets cited, and who gets named instead of you.

Sightivo tracks mention rate per assistant, surfaces the page most often cited as your source, and ranks the competitors named alongside — or instead of — you.

What is AI visibility tracking?

AI visibility tracking is the practice of measuring how often AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini mention a brand in their answers, which sources they cite when they do, and which competing brands they name instead. It is the answer-engine equivalent of rank tracking: instead of measuring position on a results page, it measures presence in a generated answer.

The measurement works differently because the surface does. There is no ranked list of ten blue links to hold a position in — a brand is either named in the answer or it is invisible, and the answer is assembled fresh from sources the model considers credible. That makes the metric a mention rate across repeated prompts rather than a single position number.

Sightivo runs the buying-intent prompts that matter in your category against each assistant on a recurring basis, records whether you were mentioned, captures which URL was cited as the source, and tracks the same for every competitor that shows up. Over time that produces a share-of-mention picture: who owns your category in AI answers, and what they are being cited for.

What Sightivo measures

Four numbers that tell you whether AI search knows who you are.

Mention rate per assistant

ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Overviews do not answer the same way, and a brand can be strong in one and absent from another. Sightivo scores each assistant separately so you know which one you are losing.

Which page gets cited

When an assistant does mention you, it pulled from somewhere. Sightivo records the cited URL so you can see which page is doing the work — and which pages you assumed were doing it are not.

Competitor share of mention

Every answer that names a competitor and not you is a lost recommendation. Sightivo ranks the brands appearing in your category’s answers so you can see who AI treats as the default choice.

Movement over time

AI answers shift as models retrain and sources change. Tracking on a recurring schedule turns a one-off spot check into a trend line you can tie back to the mentions you earned.

The overview rolls every tracked prompt into one picture: where you stand per assistant, and who is being recommended in your place.

How tracking works

1

Sightivo builds your prompt set

Starting from your category and competitors, Sightivo assembles the buying-intent questions real prospects ask an assistant — “best tool for X”, “alternatives to Y”, “how do I do Z”.

2

Each prompt runs against every assistant

The same questions go to ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Overviews on a recurring schedule, because a single run tells you very little about a probabilistic system.

3

Mentions and citations get recorded

Every answer is parsed for your brand, your competitors, and the URLs cited as sources — so you get a mention rate, not an anecdote.

4

Gaps become opportunities

Where a competitor is cited and you are not, Sightivo traces the source back to a place you could be mentioned too, and adds it to your opportunity queue.

The same job, on a surface that works nothing like a results page.

Frequently asked questions

How do you track brand mentions in ChatGPT?

You run a fixed set of buying-intent prompts against the assistant on a recurring schedule and record how often your brand appears in the answers. Because model output varies between runs, a single check is not a measurement — the useful number is a mention rate across many runs of the same prompt. Sightivo automates that sampling across ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Overviews and stores the cited sources alongside each result.

Which AI assistants does Sightivo track?

Sightivo tracks ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Overviews, scoring each one separately. That separation matters because the assistants draw on different sources and a brand is routinely strong in one and invisible in another.

How often should AI visibility be checked?

Recurring tracking beats spot checks. AI answers move when models retrain and when the sources they cite change, so what you want is a trend line rather than a snapshot. Sightivo runs your prompt set on a schedule so movement shows up as a change in mention rate rather than a surprise.

Do backlinks affect whether AI mentions your brand?

Indirectly, and significantly. Assistants assemble answers from sources they treat as credible, and being mentioned on those sources is what puts you in the pool to be cited. A link on a page an assistant already cites is worth more for AI visibility than a higher-authority link on a page it never reads.

What is a good AI mention rate?

There is no universal benchmark, because it depends entirely on how competitive and how well-documented your category is. The number worth watching is relative: your mention rate against the competitors appearing in the same answers. Being named in 30% of answers is strong in a crowded category and weak in a thin one.
