Ahrefs Brand Radar Review (2026): Pricing, Engines, Real Cost
Ahrefs Brand Radar: $199/mo per AI platform or $699/mo for six, plus an Ahrefs plan. What it tracks, how it gets its data, real cost, who should buy.
Brand Radar is Ahrefs' AI visibility product: it tells you how often your brand appears in AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, which sources those answers cite, and how your share compares to competitors — using a prompt database Ahrefs says now exceeds 472 million monthly prompts. It is sold as an add-on to an Ahrefs subscription at $199 a month per AI platform, or $699 a month for all of them.
This review covers what that buys, the total cost once the base plan is included, how Brand Radar gets its data (which is the thing most reviews get wrong), what users complain about, and when a standalone tool is the better choice. Prices were checked in August 2026 on ahrefs.com/pricing and ahrefs.com/brand-radar. We have not run Brand Radar on our own account; the review draws on Ahrefs' published plans and documentation, Ahrefs' own research, and independent reviews. Disclosure: Sightivo, which we make, is among the alternatives at the end.
TL;DR
- Price: from $199/mo for one AI platform, $699/mo for all six, plus an Ahrefs plan (Lite $129/mo, Standard $249, Advanced $449). Realistic all-in for full coverage: about $828/mo on Lite; independent reviewers put typical configurations at $828–$1,148/mo.
- Engines: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot; YouTube, TikTok and Reddit visibility in beta. No Claude, Grok or DeepSeek.
- Data: a search-derived prompt pool (472M+ monthly prompts, 311M of them AI Overviews) rather than live tracking of your own prompt list; custom prompts are 2,500 checks a month on the all-platforms tier, with paid packs above that.
- Best for: Ahrefs customers who want AI mentions next to Site Explorer and Keywords Explorer, and enterprise teams that value a huge prompt universe over a curated one.
- Weakest for: startups, anyone without an Ahrefs plan, teams that want daily prompt-level tracking or the tool to act on gaps.
- Verdict: the deepest prompt pool in the category at the highest price in the category.
Pros and cons
Pros
- The largest prompt database any AI visibility vendor publishes: 472M+ monthly prompts, broken down by platform (AI Overviews 311.4M, ChatGPT 36.8M, Gemini 31.3M, Copilot 31.2M).
- Six engines, plus YouTube, TikTok and Reddit in beta — useful if your buyers research on video or community sites.
- Native to Ahrefs: brand mentions sit beside backlinks, organic traffic and keywords for the same topic, with no export.
- Ahrefs publishes serious research on how AI engines cite — the 75,000-brand study and the AI Overviews click study below — and Brand Radar is the product built on it.
Cons
- Price. $199 per platform means full coverage is $699/mo before the Ahrefs plan you must already hold; there is no trial.
- Keyword-first data. The prompt pool is derived from search query data, so it tells you how you appear across its prompts; tracking your own prompt list is capped at 2,500 checks a month (more in paid packs: $50/mo for 2,500, $100/mo for 7,000, $250/mo for 25,000).
- Refresh cadence is monthly for most platforms, according to independent testers — fine for a quarterly report, slow for a launch.
- No Claude, Grok, Meta AI or DeepSeek.
- It is a data product: it reports gaps and cited sources but does not produce the page, the source list with contacts, or the outreach.
Who it's for
- Ahrefs customers on Standard or above who need an AI visibility line in the same reports as organic — the integration is the reason to buy.
- Enterprise and agency teams with budgets that don't flinch at $700–1,100/mo, who want to see brand share across a very large prompt universe rather than the 20–200 prompts they'd write themselves.
- Brands whose buyers research on YouTube or Reddit, where Brand Radar's beta coverage is unusual.
It is the wrong tool for a startup with one product: you'd pay for a suite and a $199–699 add-on to learn what a five-prompt check already shows.
How Brand Radar gets its data, and why it matters
Most AI visibility tools work one way: you write prompts, the tool asks the engines those prompts on a schedule, and reports what came back. Brand Radar mostly works the other way around. It maintains a database of prompts and queries derived from search data, samples AI answers across that database, and lets you filter to your brand, competitors and topics. Independent reviews describe it as "a snapshot, keyword-first method rather than true prompt-level tracking" (Profound's review).
The upside is breadth: you can discover you're mentioned for prompts you never thought to write. The downside is control: the prompts that matter to your pipeline — "best [your category] for startups", "[incumbent] alternatives" — may be sampled infrequently or not at all unless you spend custom-prompt checks on them, and those are the 2,500-a-month allowance. For a team whose entire question is "do the 20 buyer prompts in our category name us this week?", a prompt-first tool answers faster and cheaper.
Pricing, in full
Checked August 2026 on ahrefs.com/pricing and the Brand Radar page. Ahrefs shows prices in local currency; USD figures below.
| Component | Monthly | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs base plan (required) | Lite $129 · Standard $249 · Advanced $449 · Enterprise $1,499 | Annual saves up to 17% |
| Brand Radar, one AI platform | $199 | Per platform |
| Brand Radar, Select Platforms bundle | ~$400 (region-dependent) | Subset of engines with custom checks |
| Brand Radar, all platforms | $699 | Six engines; 2,500 custom-prompt checks/mo included |
| Custom prompt packs | $50 / $100 / $250 | 2,500 / 7,000 / 25,000 checks a month |
| Video tracking | $199 (beta, currently free for subscribers) | YouTube/TikTok |
| Trial | None |
Worked example: Lite + all platforms = $828/mo; Standard + all platforms + the Growth prompt pack = $1,048/mo. EWR Digital and Ekamoira, reviewing independently, put typical configurations between $828 and $1,148 a month, which they estimate at roughly 2.5× the category average.
What users say
Across G2 and the review round-ups, the same three points recur:
- The price is the most common complaint by a distance: "each AI answer engine costing $199/month, so for six AI engines you pay $699/month".
- The prompt pool is admired; the lack of a curated, daily-tracked prompt list of your own is the main functional criticism.
- Existing Ahrefs users describe the learning curve as minimal and the integration as the reason they keep it.
The research Brand Radar is built on
Whatever you decide, Ahrefs' own studies are the best free education in this category:
- In the 75,000-brand study, YouTube mentions correlated most strongly with ChatGPT visibility, branded web mentions second, and backlinks barely at all. Reddit was the most-cited domain (847,338 citations), then Wikipedia (431,710) and Amazon (97,457). "Best of" list posts made up 43.83% of citations on average versus 14.34% for ordinary blog posts, and ChatGPT-cited URLs were 393 days newer than the pages ranking in Google for the same queries.
- In the AI Overviews click study (300,000 keywords, December 2025 data), the top-ranking page received a 58% lower click-through rate when an AI Overview was present.
- Semrush's AI search traffic study adds the commercial side: AI search visitors convert at 4.4× the rate of organic visitors, and about 90% of ChatGPT citations go to pages ranking 21st or lower in Google.
Read together: the mentions that move AI visibility come from third-party sources (Reddit, lists, video), not your backlink profile — which is exactly the work a measurement tool leaves to you.
Your first week with Brand Radar
Because Brand Radar is pool-first, the setup that pays off is the opposite of most trackers:
- Start from the pool, not from your prompts. Filter the AI Overviews and ChatGPT indexes to your category terms and note every prompt where a competitor appears and you don't. That discovery is the feature you're paying for.
- Spend the 2,500 custom checks on buyer prompts only. Fifty prompts sampled across six platforms a few times each uses the allowance quickly; put it on the "best X for Y" and "X alternatives" prompts that map to pipeline, not on brand-name queries you already win.
- Pull the cited-sources list per platform and de-duplicate by domain. That list — usually a mix of Reddit threads, list posts, YouTube videos and a few publishers — is the off-page work Brand Radar identifies but does not do.
- Snapshot monthly and expect monthly. Most platforms refresh on a monthly cadence, so weekly comparisons will mostly show noise.
- Join it to Site Explorer. The integration is the point: for each cited third-party page, check whether it links to competitors, how much traffic it gets, and who wrote it, before deciding which mentions to chase.
Ahrefs Brand Radar vs Sightivo
Disclosure: we make Sightivo. Where the two differ:
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | Sightivo | |
|---|---|---|
| Engines | AI Overviews & AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot (+ YouTube/TikTok/Reddit beta) | ChatGPT, Claude, Google AI Overviews |
| Data model | 472M+ search-derived prompt pool; 2,500 custom checks/mo | Your own prompt set per project, re-run on a schedule |
| Entry price | $199/mo per platform + Ahrefs plan; $828/mo all-in on Lite | Solo $99/mo (2 projects), Indie $199 (4), Studio $399 (10) |
| Seats | Per Ahrefs plan | Unlimited on every plan |
| Backlink & keyword data | Ahrefs' full index | A backlink index and rank tracking, not at Ahrefs' scale |
| After a gap is found | Cited sources and topic data | The page your site is missing, the sources cited for that prompt, the authors and contacts behind them, a drafted pitch |
| Trial | None | 3-day trial with a card; no free plan |
| White-label | Yes (Ahrefs) | No |
Where Ahrefs wins: engine count, prompt-universe breadth, video and Reddit coverage, and everything else in Ahrefs. Where Sightivo wins: cost for a startup, Claude coverage, prompt-level control, unlimited seats, and the action side. We do not claim parity with Ahrefs' link or keyword index.
Alternatives to Ahrefs Brand Radar

When to choose Ahrefs
- You already pay for Ahrefs Standard or above and want AI visibility inside it.
- Breadth matters more than control: you'd rather see your share across hundreds of millions of prompts than track 50 of your own daily.
- Your buyers research on YouTube or Reddit and you want that tracked in the same place.
- Budget is not the constraint.
Choose something else if you're not an Ahrefs customer, need Claude, want daily tracking of a prompt list you wrote, or need the tool to hand you the next off-page action.
Common Questions
How much does Ahrefs Brand Radar cost?
$199 per month per AI platform, or $699 per month for all six platforms, on top of an Ahrefs plan that starts at $129/mo (Lite). Full coverage on the cheapest plan is about $828/mo; custom-prompt packs add $50–250/mo. Prices checked August 2026.
Is Brand Radar included in my Ahrefs plan?
No. It is an add-on to every plan, including Enterprise. Ahrefs' free AI Visibility Checker gives a limited snapshot without the add-on.
Which AI engines does Ahrefs Brand Radar track?
Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, with YouTube, TikTok and Reddit visibility in beta. It does not track Claude, Grok, Meta AI or DeepSeek.
Is Ahrefs Brand Radar worth it for a startup?
Rarely. The all-in cost for full coverage is $828/mo or more, the prompt model favours breadth over the 20–50 buyer prompts a startup cares about, and there is no trial. A dedicated tool at $29–199/mo covers a startup's prompts daily; the exception is a startup already on Ahrefs that only needs one platform ($199/mo).
What are the alternatives to Ahrefs Brand Radar?
The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit for Semrush customers; Profound, Peec AI and Otterly.AI as standalone trackers; Sightivo if you want measurement plus the pages, sources and outreach to change the number. Ten options are compared with verified prices in best AI visibility tools.
Key Takeaways
- Brand Radar is $199/mo per platform or $699/mo for six, plus an Ahrefs plan from $129 — about $828/mo all-in for full coverage, the highest in the category.
- Its edge is a 472M+ monthly prompt pool and six engines plus YouTube/Reddit; its limit is a search-derived data model with 2,500 custom checks a month and monthly refreshes for most platforms.
- Ahrefs' own research says mentions on Reddit, lists and video drive AI visibility far more than backlinks — measurement tools show that gap, they don't close it.
- Buy it if you're an Ahrefs customer with the budget; otherwise a prompt-first tool costs a fifth as much.
