The 12 Best Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) Tools for 2026
GEO tools compared on engine coverage, what they actually recommend, and entry pricing—from $29 trackers to enterprise platforms, plus the one thing almost none of them do.
Generative engine optimization is the practice of getting your brand mentioned, cited and recommended inside AI-generated answers. Two years ago it had no tooling. Now it has a crowded category, a lot of overlapping claims, and a wide spread between a $29 tracker and an enterprise platform that requires a sales call.
This guide compares twelve of them on the things that actually differ: which engines they watch, what they hand you when they find a gap, and what the entry tier costs.
Full disclosure: we build Sightivo, the first tool listed. Prices were checked in August 2026 and change often — confirm on each vendor's page.

How We Evaluated These Tools
Engine coverage relative to your buyers. Six engines shallowly is worth less than the two your customers actually use, tracked daily.
What lands in your lap after the gap is found. A number, an export, an on-page suggestion, or an off-page action. This is the single biggest differentiator in the category and it's weighted heaviest.
Prompt control. Whether you write the prompts or accept a templated set, and how many you get.
Entry price, not headline price. What it costs the team most likely to be reading this.
We haven't run a controlled accuracy bake-off. AI answers are non-deterministic and vary by session, region and model version — anyone publishing a precise accuracy ranking should be asked how they controlled for that.
GEO, AEO, AI Visibility: Do the Labels Mean Anything?
Barely. GEO (generative engine optimization) emphasizes optimizing to appear in AI answers. AEO (answer engine optimization) emphasizes being the answer to a question. AI visibility emphasizes measurement. In practice most products do some of each, and the label mostly tells you which term the vendor's marketing team bet on.
What genuinely differs is whether a tool measures, optimizes your own pages, or helps you earn mentions on other people's. We wrote about that split in the SEO/GEO tool gap, and it's the lens this list uses.
The 12 Best GEO Tools
Our tool
1. Sightivo — best for earning the mentions, not just counting them
Sightivo tracks how often ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews mention you, then turns each gap into a named off-page action: the page to appear on, the author behind it, their contact details and a drafted pitch.
Strengths:
- Per-engine mention rates and competitor share of voice
- Prompts you write yourself, so they match how your buyers ask
- Scored opportunities — roundups, comparisons, directories, ranked pages — instead of an export
- Author discovery with contact enrichment, plus drafted outreach and follow-up tracking
- Backlink and rank tracking in the same workspace, so SEO and GEO stop being two subscriptions
Limitations:
- Newer platform than the incumbent suites
- Not an Ahrefs-scale backlink index
- Built for startups and small teams rather than enterprise brand monitoring
Pricing: Free plan, no credit card. Starter $79/mo. Growth $169/mo for 3 companies and 3 seats.

2. Otterly.AI — best cheap entry point

The lowest-friction way to find out whether AI search matters for your category.
Strengths: Genuinely small-team pricing; tracks mentions and cited links; unlimited team members on every plan; setup in an afternoon.
Limitations: 15 prompts on Lite disappears fast; reporting is functional rather than polished; no guidance on what to do with the findings.
Pricing: Lite $29/mo ($25 annual), Standard $189/mo, Premium $489/mo.
3. Frase — best for content teams

Pairs AI-engine tracking with the briefs and optimization meant to close the gap.
Strengths: Cheapest content-oriented entry; tracking sits beside production; good fit for teams publishing on a cadence.
Limitations: On-page by design, which only goes so far when most citations are earned on other people's sites; lighter competitor analysis than dedicated trackers.
Pricing: From $39/mo billed yearly.
4. ZipTie — best for pairing analysis with fixes

Sits between monitoring and content optimization, with credits for both.
Strengths: Content optimizations bundled with AI search checks; 14-day trial; 14 countries covered.
Limitations: Modest check volumes on Basic; one seat on entry; fewer engines than the broadest trackers.
Pricing: Basic $69/mo, Standard $99/mo, Pro $159/mo.
5. Profound — best for enterprise depth

The most established name at the enterprise end of the category.
Strengths: Deep analytics and conversation-level category insight; reporting built for executives; agent-oriented features beyond mention counting.
Limitations: The $99 Starter tier is ChatGPT-only, so real coverage starts higher; measurement-heavy — you still need people to act.
Pricing: Starter $99/mo, Growth $399/mo (both billed yearly), Enterprise custom.
6. Peec AI — best clean dashboard for marketing teams

Popular with European SaaS and agency teams.
Strengths: Broad engine coverage from the entry tier including Copilot and Gemini; daily tracking; readable competitor views.
Limitations: Analytics-first; project and country limits on lower tiers; pricing not published as plainly as rivals.
Pricing: Starter through Enterprise; current numbers on their site.
7. SE Ranking — best for bundling GEO with SEO

Rank tracking, audits and AI visibility on one subscription.
Strengths: One tool across rankings, technical audit and AI answers; 100 tracked prompts daily on Core; 14-day trial without a card.
Limitations: Above $100/mo, so not an entry-level buy; GEO features newer than the core product.
Pricing: Core $129/mo monthly, about $103/mo annually.
8. Semrush — best if you already pay for it

AI-answer tracking attached to the suite you may already have.
Strengths: No new vendor; sits beside keyword and backlink data; large crawl infrastructure behind it.
Limitations: An add-on to a much larger product; usually gated behind higher tiers; recommendations remain on-page and technical.
Pricing: Add-on to a Semrush plan.
9. Ahrefs Brand Radar — best for benchmarking beside link data

Built on the insight Ahrefs' own research produced: brand web mentions correlate with AI Overview visibility at 0.664 versus 0.218 for backlinks.
Strengths: Mentions tracked next to the links that drive them; strong competitive benchmarking.
Limitations: Needs an Ahrefs subscription; less prompt-level granularity than dedicated trackers; research rather than recommendations.
Pricing: Included on higher Ahrefs plans.
10. Writesonic — best for publishing volume

GEO tracking attached to an AI writing suite.
Strengths: Tracking and production in one subscription; useful if content volume is your strategy.
Limitations: Writing-first, so the GEO layer is thinner than specialists'; on-page only.
Pricing: Published tiers on their site.
11. AthenaHQ — best for agent-level brand detail

A newer entrant appearing consistently across GEO roundups.
Strengths: Focused on how AI systems represent brands; growing feature set aimed at brand teams.
Limitations: Younger product with a smaller community; pricing quoted rather than published.
Pricing: Quoted.
12. Scrunch AI — best for large sites with crawler problems

Approaches GEO from the agent side: how AI crawlers encounter and read your site.
Strengths: Technical surface coverage others ignore; enterprise reporting; genuinely useful for big, messy sites.
Limitations: Overkill for a small site; sales-led pricing; solves a different problem from answer-side trackers.
Pricing: Enterprise, quoted.
Also Worth Knowing
Rankscale, Similarweb, Evertune, Conductor, Goodie AI, GetCito and LLM Pulse all appear across competing GEO roundups and are worth a look if nothing above fits. And manual prompt testing — twenty prompts, a spreadsheet, an hour a month — remains the cheapest way to learn what these tools automate.
The Thing Almost None of Them Do
Look down the "what it recommends" column in the table above. Almost every entry is either nothing or on-page.
That matters because on-page changes are not what drives AI citations. Muck Rack's analysis of over 25 million cited links found earned media accounts for 84% of AI citations, with paid and advertorial at 0.3%. Ahrefs' 75,000-brand study put the top three visibility factors all off-site.
So the category has converged on optimizing the 20% you control while measuring the 80% you don't — and leaving the actual work, earning mentions in the sources these engines read, entirely to you. If you only take one thing from this list, make it that question: after this tool shows me the gap, what does it hand me?
Common Questions
What is a GEO tool?
Software that measures and improves how your brand appears in AI-generated answers across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode.
What's the cheapest GEO tool?
Sightivo's free plan gives a snapshot with 10 tracked prompts at no cost. Among paid-only options, Rankscale starts at $20/mo, Otterly.AI at $29/mo and Frase at $39/mo billed yearly. The genuinely free options are ranked in free AI visibility tools.
Is GEO different from AEO and AI visibility?
Mostly in emphasis and marketing. GEO leans toward optimization, AEO toward answering questions, AI visibility toward measurement — and most products now blur all three.
Do GEO tools replace SEO tools?
No. They measure a different surface, and the two stacks rarely share a workspace. The work that improves both — earning credible mentions — is the same work. The tools that straddle both are compared in best AI SEO tools.
How long does it take to move AI visibility?
Slowly, in months rather than weeks, because it depends on other people publishing about you. Measure monthly, not daily.
Can GEO tools track mentions without links?
Most do, and they should — an unlinked mention still teaches a model what your brand is. That's a genuine difference from classic backlink tracking.
Key Takeaways
- Entry pricing spans free to $129/mo, so there's no excuse for having no baseline
- Engine coverage and prompt control matter more than dashboard polish
- Nearly every tool in the category recommends nothing, or recommends on-page changes only
- 84% of AI citations come from earned media — the surface most GEO tools don't help with
- Pick for the bottleneck you have: measurement, content, or getting other people to mention you
